out of range error in safe mode only
BUT, when I boot in safe mode with networking it works fine. I know safemode only boots with a minimal set of drivers and executes only certain parts of win.ini and system.ini. I tried the trick of renaming win.ini to get a fresh file, but that didn't fix it. I don't know what to try next.

System hanging and unable to start in "safe" mode - FUBAR
Hi, My computer will only load in SAFE MODE. It begins to load, goes to the Window screen, then reboots itself and gives me the screen with SAFE MODE as an option. I have the EBD ... but what can I do to try to fix this system? Nothing new was added ... not sure why Windows 98 won't load properly.

I can boot into special VGA mode without problems (but this is not a safe mode with minimal drivers, etc.). Any thoughts? I haven't been able to get any kind of a sensible explanation for this. Is it possible that some setting in my ATI control panel is causing this behavior in safe mode only?

Boots only in safe mode--- what to do next?

D: drive will stay intact, and only the C: drive will be wiped and restored back to it's original state. IF you can actually get into safe mode, you should able to transfer the files. If not, and you have access to another system you may be able to build a boot media CD from something like Acronis Disk Director.

Problem: Installation of Office 97 resulted on imediated system lock-up unless one goes to safemode. On occations, the installation would go fine until a few day/month later before the problem above show up.
