Since doing so Word will only open in safe mode, Ive tried reinstalling xp office and used repair and detect but still have the problem. You did not say what the actual problem is, ie what happens when you attempt to launch MS Word in normal mode. Also: Are your copies of Windows and MS Office legal or perhaps not

However, a few days ago during starup it said ifsmgr.vxd and ifshlp.sys were corrupted and the system would not boot, not even into the safe mode. In DOS I extracted the corrupted files from the cabs in c:\window\options\cabs and placed the in the right directories. Now the system only boots into safe mode.
